Box Score BALTIMORE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore refused to be put away on Monday night (Jan. 30) at Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference No. 1 Morgan State and trailed by as few as five points with just under four minutes remaining. But the Hawks (5-15, 1-5 MEAC) ended up on the wrong end of a 76-65 loss by the end of regulation.
Sophomore Ariana Seawell (Bronx, New York) finished with a team-high 20 points and seven boards in 25 minutes. She was 8-of-8 from the free throw line and made 6-of-12 shots from the field.
Freshman Ja'la Bannerman (Baltimore, Maryland) scored a career-high 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting and added three assists and four steals playing in her hometown. Classmate Ashanti Lynch (Hookerton, North Carolina) led the Hawks with eight rebounds to go with four points.
Redshirt-Junior Mahogany Lester (Virginia Beach, Virginia) was limited to just 20 minutes due to foul trouble and chipped in seven points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
UMES won the battle on the glass 37-24, while the Bears had 19 turnovers to the Hawks' 23. Morgan State (13-6, 6-0) held the Hawks to 40% from the field and managed 49% itself. The Bears also made 9-of-20 from behind the arc.
The Hawks will next play host to Norfolk State on Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. as part of a men's and women's doubleheader.
