Hawks welcome Steve Howard to the coaching staff

Hawk head coach Jason Crafton adds Steve Howard to coaching staff



PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland - As the Hawks enter the second week of the 2023-2024 season, University of Maryland Eastern Shore head men's basketball coach Jason Crafton has selected Steve Howard joins the program as the team's new assistant coach.


Howard joins Crafton along with current assistant Kassim Kaba and Keith Koutreyer.


"Steve is detail oriented and fits well into our team culture and philosophy," Crafton says. "He has an unquestioned work ethic and a passion for player development. I think he is a great addition to our staff and will bring a great prospective and energy to our team."


Howard spent the previous two seasons with the Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G-League affiliaite of the Milwaukee Bucks. While with the Herd, Howard served as a player development assistant and video coordinator. Prior to his time in Wisconsin, Howard was coaching at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida which included experience working with professional athletes as well as high school and post-graduate athletes. 


Howard has experienced working for Crafton as the two were at Nyack College when Howard was a graduate student assistant while Crafton was head coach of the Warriors. In his final season with the program, Howard was promoted to serve on Crafton's staff as an assistant.


Howard played collegiately at Clark Summit University and was named team captain during his junior and senior seasons. Howard earned his bachelor's degree in Youth Ministry from Clark Summit in 2012.
