PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore saw its three-game winning streak cut down at Coppin State on Saturday, but the team still has two games to grab a beneficial seed at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament. The first of those comes on Monday (Feb. 27) as they host MEAC No. 2 Morgan State at 5:30 p.m. as part of a men's and woman's doubleheader.
The Hawks (8-18, 4-8) are currently in fifth place in the MEAC standings, but sport the same 4-8 conference record as sixth place Delaware State and seventh place Coppin State.
"This is the time of year that we work toward," Hawks head coach Fred Batchelor said. "The last few weeks we have taken steps toward growth and learning how to win. But at the end of the day we have got to remember that the other team also wants to win. We can't let them want it more and I think that's what happened at Coppin."
UMES could be seeing a Bears squad that is hungry, coming off a one-point home loss to the Hornets. It was their third straight loss after starting conference play 9-0.
Monday will be senior night as the Hawks celebrate Makayla Adams (Bowie, Maryland), Mahogany Lester (Virginia Beach, Virginia) and Mya Thomas (Chesapeake, Virginia).
UMES will finish the regular season on Thursday (Mar. 2) at 5:30 p.m. at Delaware State.
