PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore saw two Hawks recognized in the Black College Nines Postseason Elites and Individual Awards on Monday, May 22.
Outfielder Brantley Cutler was named to the First Team, while Assistant Media Relations Coordinator Justin Odendhal earned the Special Service award, being named Sports Information Director of the Year.
Cutler has resided among the top hitters in the Northeast Conference this season. His .343 batting average lands him at ninth in the NEC, and he ranks tenth in OPS (.976) and hits (69) while sharing the conference lead in doubles (16).
The Washington, North Carolina native has etched his name in the Hawk record book in 2023, setting the single season total base record while ranking second in home runs and RBI's and fourth in base hits in a season.
"Brantley deserves this recognition," interim head coach Shawn Phillips said. "He's made big strides this season and he's earned the attention."
Odendhal enters his second season working alongside Hawk Baseball after joining the Media Relations staff in 2021. He also serves as the primary point of contact for volleyball, cross country and track and field while assisting in other areas of the department.
Prior to joining the Hawks, Odendhal earned multiple Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association awards for his multimedia coverage during his time with Gannett. He currently resides in Snow Hill with his wife, Taylor, and daughter, Eva.
"I'm honored to receive this award," Odendhal said. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to cover these excellent student-athletes."
The Hawks begin their run in the program's first NEC Tournament on Wednesday, May 24 with a duel against Fairleigh Dickinson in Wappingers Falls, New York. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. from Dutchess Stadium.
