Hawks wrap up HBCU Golf Classic with Kiley and Langford as low scorers
STOCKBRIDGE, Georgia - With both the men and women in action at this week's HBCU Golf Classic in Stockbridge, Georgia,
Logan Kiley emerged as the top individual for the Hawk men in scoring while
Cori Langford led the University of Maryland Eastern Shore women in the two round tournament which was highlighted by a Hawk hole-in-one and an albatross.
Playing on the Eagle's Landing Country Club's Hill and Lake courses measuring 6620 yards, the UMES men combined to shoot 301 and 325 for a tournament total of 626. The women played to a yardage of 5851 and finished with team scores of 339 and 343 for a combined total of 682.
Kiley, a junior from Worcester, Mass., recorded his first collegiate career hole-in-one in the second round on the par-three seventh hole and went on to a total of 145 with rounds of 72 and 73. Kiley finished in eighth place individually while leading the field in par-three scoring (2.88) and ranking third in par-five scoring (4.25). Kyle Smetiouk also had a solid showing in his second collegiate tournament with scores of 74 and 80 for a total of 154. Rounding out the top four scores for UMES was
Michael Davis' total of 163 (76-87) and
Bryan Janocha's 167 (79-88).
"It was an amazing moment for Logan and he channeled some positive energy from his hole-in-one for the rest of his round," said UMES head coach
Tiana Jones. "I am proud of the overall performance from our men. They have improved from our first tournament scores and we look forward to keeping consistent momentum for the duration of the fall season."
Langford's tournament was highlighted by a round two albatross on the par-five fourth hole on her way to a 77 and a two-day total of 159 to finish in fourth place. Freshman
Alana Alexander-Giles finished in sixth place with scores of 80 and 82 for a combined total of 162. Top four Lady Hawk scoring includedÂ
Keziah Threalkill with a total of 178 and
Hailey Fisher with 183 strokes.
"It was an up and down tournament for our women. I thought Cori and Alana overcame some challenges and went on to shoot solid rounds for us," Jones said. "We will continue to work towards building our depth and putting forth a better overall team performance."
The UMES men are scheduled to compete at next Monday's Ironwood Collegiate Classic in Greenville, North Carolina. The women will compete later in the week at the Outer Banks Intercollegiate at Duck Woods Country Club in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
