Hawks Set to Host Henson Hawk Invitational

PRINCESS ANNE, MD — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team will debut in Princess Anne on Saturday, Sept. 14, for the Henson Hawk Invitational. The Hawks will host Iona, Hampton, and UNC Asheville at the Hytche Athletic Center for six matches over Sept. 14-15.

The event, which kicks off the Hawks' home schedule, begins Saturday with three matches. Highlights include UMES facing Iona at 6 p.m. and continuing Sunday with UMES playing UNC Asheville at 10 a.m. and Hampton at 6 p.m.

All UMES matches will feature live stats and a stream on the Delmarva Sports Network, while the remaining matches will have live stats only. 

On the call for the Hawks' matches:

  • Tim Nolan and Patrick Cassat at 6 p.m. Saturday
  • Luke Meli and Patrick Cassat at 10 a.m. Sunday
  • Patrick Cassat and Luke Meli at 6 p.m. Sunday

UMES opened its 2024 season under second-year head coach Vanessa Faircloth with two matches in Erie, Pennsylvania, against Mercyhurst and a trip to Georgia for a matchup with Mercer and participation in the GATA Challenge hosted by Georgia Southern. The Hawks, who finished 16-12 last year, return nine athletes and add 11 newcomers. UMES is projected to finish fourth in the MEAC, with senior Ranyla Griggs earning preseason All-MEAC honors.
