University of Maryland Eastern Shore freshman forward Kaliya Perry was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week.
In Perry's first week of collegiate basketball, the freshman from Hampton, Virginia, averaged 13 points, 10 rebounds, 2.0 steals and one block in a 1-1 week for the Hawks. She totaled 26 points, 20 rebounds, two assists, four steals, and two blocks across the first two games of the season.
In her collegiate debut against VCU, she scored 11 points with seven rebounds, two steals and one assist. Perry followed with 15 points,13 rebounds, two steals and two blocks in the Hawks' 91-37 Homecoming win against Cheyney (Pa.).
Joining Perry, Norfolk State guard Jasha Clinton was named the MEAC Player of the Week presented by Wells Fargo, while Delaware State forward Ericka Huggins earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Clinton (G, 5-8, Gr., Virginia Beach, Va.) led the Spartans to a 2-1 week, averaging 20.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 6.0 steals per game. She scored 16 points with three steals, two rebounds and one assist at No. 12 Ole Miss, then added 23 points, nine steals, four assists, three rebounds and one block in the win over District of Columbia. Clinton capped off the week with 21 points, six steals, four rebounds, and three assists in a victory against Virginia State.
Huggins (So, 6-0, F., Wilmington, DE.) totaled 17 rebounds, two steals and two blocks across a 1-1 week for Delaware State. Huggins led the Hornets with 14 rebounds while adding six points and two blocks in a 66-55 win over Felician.
