NORFOLK, Virginia – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore enters the week of the MEAC Tournament with graduate guard Zamara Haynes earning All-MEAC Second Team honors.
The annual MEAC awards are selected based on nominations and voting by the MEAC head coaches and communications administrators. The awards and All-MEAC selections were announced at Tuesday night's MEAC Awards Ceremony in Norfolk.
In Haynes' fourth year at UMES, she led the Hawks in scoring, assists and minutes played this season, and was second on the team in steals.
She entered the year a preseason All-MEAC Third Team selection, but improved upon nearly every statistical category from last season. Haynes was 12th in the MEAC in scoring average with 11.6 points per game, fourth in made free throws with 93, ninth in assists per game with 82 for the season and 10th in the conference in steals per game with a career-high 47 on the year.
Haynes also broke the 1,000-point mark for the season while breaking double digits scoring 17 times this season, including a game-high 25 in a win against Dayton.
The Hawks take the court Thursday at 2 p.m. against Morgan State in the Scope Arena. The Hawks enter the MEAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed.
