Dolphins Sweep Hawks in Saturday Doubleheader

GAME 1

SUMMARY

Despite the Hawks taking an early lead, the Le Moyne Dolphins rattled off 12 unanswered runs to defeat the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks, 12-2.

THE SCORE

Le Moyne Dolphins - 12

Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks - 2

(Le Moyne wins series 2-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless first inning by Carter Champey on the mound, the Maroon and Grey bats started the game off strong. In the bottom of the first inning, Jonathan Gonzalez Perez powered an RBI single to center field to drive in Julian Jimenez. In addition, Bronson Taylor drilled a single to left field to drive in Gonzalez and give the Hawks an early lead, 2-0.

The visiting Dolphins began to string together hits in the top of the second inning, generating five hits in the second frame alone. The timely hitting translated to six runs by the Dolphins in the second inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing double to give Le Moyne the lead for good. The Dolphins went on to outscore the Hawks by six runs throughout the final four innings of the game which allowed Le Moyne to close out the victory, 12-2, in seven innings.

THE NUMBERS

UMES finished with two runs on five hits and three errors while Le Moyne amassed 12 runs on 12 hits and one error.

Jonathan Gonzalez Perez finished two-for-three with an RBI at the plate. This is his fifth multi-hit game of the season for Gonzalez, and he is now on a six game hit streak.

GAME 2

SUMMARY

The Le Moyne Dolphins plated ten runs in the first four innings en route to a wire-to-wire victory over the  Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks, 11-4.

THE SCORE

Le Moyne Dolphins - 11

Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks - 4

(Le Moyne sweeps series 3-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

After Le Moyne raced out to an early advantage, 10-0, the Hawks responded with three runs of their own in the middle of the game. In the fourth frame, Joshua Caldwell drove in Diego Aponte on an RBI single. Furthermore, during the fifth inning, Diego Aponte laced an RBI single to left field to drive in Bronson Taylor and Jason Brown scorched an RBI single to left center field to drive in Jonathan Gonzalez Perez.

Despite the 10-run deficit, the Hawks had chances to get back in the game. Unfortunately for UMES, they could not maximize their scoring opportunities in the fourth and fifth innings, leaving five runners on the base paths.

On the mound, Jayden Dillard provided his best relief outing of the season, pitching a season-high 5.2 innings. The junior pitcher from Salisbury, Maryland retired the first 14 batters he faced, including striking out the Le Moyne side in the eighth inning. After a rough beginning for the Hawks pitching staff, Dillard provided some consistency for UMES, striking out six Dolphins in his outing while yielding just a single earned run during his last inning of work.

Despite the solid relief effort by Dillard, an equally impressive relief effort by Le Moyne stifled UMES' offense which allowed the visiting Dolphins to cruise to a win, 11-4.

THE NUMBERS

UMES recorded four runs on 12 hits and no errors while Le Moyne amassed 11 runs on 12 hits and no errors.

Jayden Dillard pitched a career-high 5.2 innings on the mound, yielding one earned run and striking out a career-high six batters. This is the most innings that any UMES relief pitcher has pitched in one outing in 2025. The junior right-handed pitcher began his day by throwing 4.2 perfect innings, retiring 14 batters in a row. Dillard also is the first Hawk pitcher to strike out the side in an inning.

Maryland Eastern Shore had five players generate a multi-hit game. Julian Jimenez, Bronson Taylor, Diego Aponte, Ryan Davis, and Jason Brown each recorded two hits a piece.

Jason Brown finished the week 5-for-12 at the plate with four RBI, two doubles, and three outfield assists. Brown is currently on an eight game hit streak.

UP NEXT

With this loss, the Hawks fall to 3-16 (2-4). UMES will have five days of rest before taking on Stonehill on the road for their next NEC series on Friday.
