HOW IT HAPPENED
La Salle and UMES were in a scoreless stalemate through the first three innings. In his first collegiate start, Richard De Jesus struck out four batters en route to beginning the game with three scoreless frames.Â
In the top of the fourth inning, Jonathan Gonzalez Perez slammed a home run to left field to put UMES ahead 1-0. Amari Hackett then doubled the Hawks' lead on an RBI single to left field, marking Hackett's first collegiate hit and RBI. With the Hawks ahead 2-0, the Explorers countered with three runs of their own to take the lead for good. La Salle went on to stack 11 runs over the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, securing the run-rule win on a walk-off three-run homer.
THE NUMBERS
The Hawks registered two runs on five hits and three errors while the Explorers tallied 14 runs on 12 hits and one error.
Richard De Jesus made his collegiate debut, striking out four batters in 3.1 innings of work.
Esteban Torres made his UMES debut, striking out four batters as well.
Ansel Carson reached base three times, finishing 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk and a hit by pitch.
Gonzalez Perez recorded his first home run of the season and the first home run for the Hawks in the 2026 season.
