In the first of two matches at home, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore swept the Dominican University of New York Chargers 3-0. The Hawks were led by a balanced offensive effort with three players hitting double digits for kills.

How It Happened
The Hawks drew the first two points of the match with kills by Joshua Hightower and Tristan Rowley before the Chargers answered with a pair of their own points to tie the score. UMES responded, though, with another pair of kills courtesy of Chase Valentine. Dominican took the lead with a 3-0 run, and though UMES responded with a kill of its own, Dominican widened the distance with another couple of points to take a 8-6 lead. The score remained knotted until 10-8 when the Hawks went on a 5-0 run to retake the lead, 13-10. UMES maintained its hold on the lead through the remainder of Set 1 to take it 25-21.
UMES made its mark on the second set early on as after a quick back-and-forth, the Hawks ran through a 5-0 run to take a 7-2 lead. Throughout the remainder of the set, UMES went on a pair of 3-0 runs before capping the set with four unanswered points, 25-13.
The Chargers took the early lead with a 3-1 advantage in the third set, but the Hawks incrementally worked their way back into contention before knotting the score at 9-9. Each side traded blows and points until UMES went on a 3-0 run with Andre Mills kicking off the run with a kill to take a 17-16 lead. While Dominican kept pace with UMES, taking a 19-18 lead, the Hawks went on a 7-2 run to finish out the set and match.
