HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
On a windy and rainy morning in Princess Anne, Mercyhurst opened the game by scoring seven runs in the first inning. The Lakers then continued their momentum with an additional run in the second frame to establish an 8-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Diego Aponte tallied the first UMES hit of the game on an RBI double to right field, making the score 8-1.
Mercyhurst added one run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings before cementing their victory with a four-run seventh inning to earn a series sweep.
THE NUMBERS
The Hawks finished with one run on two hits and an error while the Lakers posted 14 runs on 14 hits and no errors
Five out of UMES' six runs in this series came on RBI doubles
Joshua Caldwell finished 1-for-3 in the game and 5-for-9 with two doubles in the series. Caldwell paced the Hawks this weekend in hits
