Orlando, FL - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks Tennis Team headed south to the warmer climate for their second event of the season, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round Up where UMES would take on the MEAC South schools. The southern schools got the best of the Hawks, dropping them to 0-6 on the season.
On the opening day UMES took on the always-tough Rattlers of Florida A & M, falling 4-1. The lone point came from Victoria B. Wilson who won her sixth seed match. Later in the day UMES took on the Lady Bulldogs of South Carolina State University. SCSU also bested the Lady Hawks 4-0, sweeping the singles and doubles events.
On day two the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman College topped UMES 4-0, again sweeping the singles and doubles. The outcome was the same later in the day as the Lady Aggies of North Carolina A & T won 4-0. Good matches came from Janelle Brown-Niles who fell 6-0, 6-1 in the #2 singles contest. When she teamed with #1 singles player Vicky White they had a solid outing in doubles, falling 7-1.
The final match of the round up came against the Lady Spartans of Norfolk State University. NSU defeated the Lady Hawks 4-0 despite another strong showing from the doubles team of Brown-Niles and White. They both played solid singles matches as well falling 6-1, 6-2 & 6-1, 6-0 respectively.
UMES returns to Princess Anne on March 14th to take on the Lady Bears of Morgan State.
