Alamonte Springs, Fla. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawk Tennis team completed their five game battle against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Schools. The five matches in a four-day period were a lot for the Hawks but they played some solid tennis at the Sanland Tennis Center.

The swing began on Thursday, February 17 with a 1:30 p.m. match versus the Lady Rattlers of Florida A &M. While the Rattlers proved too tough for the Hawks, defeating them 6-1, UMES got a win from Ranada Gasque (Baltimore, MD/Harbor City H.S.) with a win over Asha Jaja. Just three hours later the Hawks showed a little sign of fatigue falling to the Lady Bulldogs of South Carolina State 7-0.

On day two the Lady Hawks came out fighting, falling 6-1 to the Lady Cats of Bethune-Cookman College. New Lady Hawk Yamada Dorsey (Upper Marlboro, MD/Frederick Douglass H.S.) defeated Sheliza Buola, 6-0, 6-1 to pick up the UMES point.

The following day the Hawks took on North Carolina A & T. Although they dropped the doubles contests they played hard in the singles matches. Similola Falase (Lagos Nigeria) scored three points, falling 6-3, 6-0. Victoria B. Wilson (Chesapeake Beach, MD/Northern H.S.) also got on the board falling 6-1, 6-0 to Kathryn Jackson. They lost the match 4-0.

On the final day UMES played local rival Norfolk State, falling 5-0. Falase and Sashonna Leak (Washington, D.C./South Carroll H.S.) each scored in their matches.

The Lady Hawks look to regroup on March 11, 2005 against Howard University at 1:00 p.m. in Washington.
