Princess Anne, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) fell 6-1 in men's action and 7-0 in women's in their final regular season match today. The Coppin State University (CSU) Eagles held the upper hand in both matches, although the Hawks played some spirited tennis.
In the women's match Kyndell Chapman, playing the number four match went to a tie-breaker before falling 7-5, 6-0 to CSU's Gabrielle Spence. Tonaio Swangin and Yamada Dorsey also played well falling 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1 respectively.
The team of Swangin and Dorsey also played a great doubles match falling to Ferria Cunningham and Spence, 8-4.
On the men's side Shahan Sudusinghe played possibly the best match of the day as he lost in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to the Eagles Christian Lerebours. William Miller and Christopher Clarke also had solid matches losing 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-0 respectively.
Clarke and doubles partner Harold Fowler fell 8-4 to Joseph Reynolds and Parker Scott while Sudusinghe and Miller fell 8-3.
UMES now heads to Altamonte Springs, Fla. for the MEAC Tennis Championships April 22-23.
