RICHMOND, VA. The Lady Hawks tennis squad dropped a 4-2 non-conference decision to Virginia Union on March 3. UMES won the first two singles matches but fell in the rest of their outings to remain winless on the season.
In the number one singles match, Nadia Flores Hernandez took down Virginia Union's Gabriella Mokra 6-0, 3-0 (retired) while Aissatou Ba battled back and defeated Michelle Vanakova to win the number two singles match, 4-6, 6-4, 11-9.
Fatoumata Ba lost in the number three singles match to Lenka Stejskalova, 6-2, 6-3 while Shannon Barksdale took down Haaveshe Sawyer, 6-2, 6-4 in the number four spot. Yamada Dorsey dropped the number five singles match to R. Blunt, 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles action, Blunt and Mokra edged out Flores and A. Ba 8-6 in the number one match while Vanakova and Stejskalova defeated F. Ba and Dorsey 8-2 in the number two doubles match.
