DOVER, Del. - Junior James Moore (Manassas, Va.) and sophomore Amon Kiprotich Kapsabet, Kenya) each won events and four others finished second as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's track and field team finished second at the Hornet Invitational at Alumni Stadium Saturday.
Moore and Kiprotich topped the field in the high jump and 5,000 meters, respectively, with Moore leaping 1.98 meters and Kiprotich running 15:59.72 to capture the pair of events.
The host Delaware State Hornets took the team title with 133 points, followed by UMES (109), Lincoln (Pa.) (99) and Coppin State (96).
Freshman Ahkeem Gauntlett (Roselle, N.J) was second in the 400 meters, running 49.44 while sophomore Peter Sang (Kapsabet, Kenya) was runner-up in the 5,000 in 15:59.84. Senior Jamahl Strachan (Nassau, Bahamas) in the high jump and freshman Harrison Agbor-Eyong (Farmington, Minn.) in the javelin took second, with marks of 1.88 and 29.91 meters, respectively.
Strachan also finished third in the shot put and third in the discus with throws of 9.32 and 23.01.
Allodin Fothergill (New Hempstead, N.Y.) was fourth in the 100, crossing in 11.09. Paul Jones-Burden (Rahway, N.J.) ran third in the 800 in 2:01.43 and Jermol Dix (Catonsville,Md.) had a solid showing in the long jump with a leap of 6.21 meters.
UMES heads to Gainsville, Fla., for the Florida Relays April 3-4.
