TENNIS ENDS ON HIGH NOTE; UMES SQUEAKS PAST UDC

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's tennis program completed their record setting season with a win over the University of D.C. 4-3 Sunday afternoon in the Hawks Outdoor Tennis Complex.

The Lady Hawks fought from behind to grab their second straight win. Down 3-0, Solana McMillan (Teaneck, N.J.) swept Shakira Watford 6-0, 6-0 in #4 singles to spark the rally.

After LaToya Coltrane (Temple Hills, Md.) defeated her #5 singles opponent, newcomer Paula Vilas (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) tied the match at 3-3 by taking down Lisa Foster 6-4, 6-2.

Aissatou Ba (Dakar, Senegal) partnered with McMillan to take the #1 doubles match 8-6, but UDC responded by grabbing the #2 spot 8-4. The deciding third game was won in straight points by Coltrane and Vilas to secure the Lady Hawks win.

UMES finished the 2009 season with a record five wins; marking the most successful season in program history.
