APRIL 8, 2009

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) tennis teams dropped their second straight matches on the road to Monmouth University Wednesday. The Lady Hawks took a game from Monmouth to fall 6-1, but the men were defeated 7-0 in the non-conference opponent.

Freshman Solana McMillan (Teaneck, N.J.) continued her stellar play this season, defeating her #4 singles opponent 8-4 and grabbing UMES' only win of the day. McMillan partnered with Fatoumata Ba (Dakar, Senegal) almost took their #1 doubles match, falling 8-6.

Emmash Sudusinghe (Ragama, Sri Lanka) racked up the most points on the men's side, but still fell to his #2 singles opponent 6-4, 6-1. Sudusinghe and partner, Dorian Thomas (Mitchellville, Md.), put up four points against their #1 doubles opponent before falling 8-4.

UMES prepares to take Coppin State April 11 for their last MEAC contest of the season. Matches are set to begin at noon.
