Virginia Beach, Va. - Sophomores Cynthia Anais (Paris, France) and Akheem Gauntlett (Roselle, N.J.) were names as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Friday.

Anais won the women's 800-meter dash at the Wake Forest Open with a time of 2:11.71. She topped a field of 113 runners in the event and also posted a top-20 performance in the 1,500-meter run and finished ahead of 98 runners with a time of 4:44.82.

Gauntlett won the men's 100-meter dash at the same meet. He finished ahead of 78 runners with a time of 10.50, which is a personal best.

Anais, Gauntlett and their UMES teammates next compete in the Maryland Invitational this weekend in College Park, Md.
