PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's tennis dropped their home finale this afternoon to local school, Wesley College by the score of 7-0. With the defeat, the Lady Hawks go winless at home for the first time since the 2006-07 campaign.
The loss wasn't without solid play from the Lady Hawks (0-15). No. 1 player Solana McMillan was again tough. She fell 6-1 to the Wolverine's Rebecca Pennington but rebounded to win 6-1 herself. Pennington took the tiebreaker 10-8.
LaToya Coltrane's fate was similar at No. 2 singles. She topped Kori Isken 6-1 but Isken defeated her 6-1 in the second set to tie the match, then went on to win the tiebreak, 10-4.
Wesley would go on to take the third through sixth singles. Joycelyn Jackman played well in an 8-5 loss at No. 3 singles while Samantha Pickard was solid at No. 6 singles, falling to Julia Wright 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action the Wolverines took the point by recording wins at all three matches. McMillan and Coltrane fell 8-3 to Pennington and Marina Palma while Anna Katenta and Alisia Belt fell at no. 3 singles 8-1 to Caitlin Grinstead and Wright 8-1.
The match marked the final one for the Hawks at home this season. They conclude their regular season at Coppin State on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in a non-conference contest. UMES fell in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest earlier this season when the Eagles visited Princess Anne, winning 6-1.
