PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomore Cynthia Anais (Paris, France) broke the school record for University of Maryland Eastern Shore in the women's 800-meter run at the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Saturday.
Anais recorded a time of 2:05.84, which broke Merrecia James' record of 2:06.49 that was set in May 2008. Anais' time was good for sixth overall as she qualified for action on Sunday.
Fellow sophomore Eunice Jones (Lanham, Md.) also qualified for Sunday in the 800m with her eighth place time of 2:07.13.
The women's 4x400 meter relay finished eighth in 3:45.95 to qualify for the finals. Members of the squad include freshmen Emilie Ducados (Paris, France), Kenesha Abrams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Melina Gallas (Paris, France) in addition to sophomore Monique Hawkins (Randallstown, Md.).
The men's 4x100 meter relay finished fourth in their race with a time of 40.57 to qualify for Sunday. This squad is made up of junior Thomas Keane-Dawes (Camden, N.C.), senior Allodin Fothergill (New Hempstead, N.Y.) and sophomores Damian Miles (Teaneck, N.J.) and Akheem Gauntlett (Roselle, N.J.).
The quartet also qualified for individual events with Gauntlett and Miles in the men's 200-meter dash and Keane-Dawes and Fothergill in the 400-meter dash.
Gauntlett finished fifth in the 200m with a time of 20.95 while Miles was seventh in 21.20.
Keane-Dawes finished the 400m in 46.89 while Fothergill ran a 47.01.
The Hawks finish the ECAC/IC4A Championships Sunday beginning at noon with the IC4A 4x100 at 12:10 p.m.
