Complete Day One Results
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore had a strong start in the preliminary round on Thursday, with three Hawks qualifying for the NCAA Quarterfinal Round.
The NCAA preliminary round began on Thursday at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex at Indiana University. In the track competition, the top three from each heat plus the next six best times in the event advance to the quarterfinals later in Bloomington.
On the women's side, Cynthia Anais (Martinique, France) had her second best run in the 800-meter run of the season to qualify for the quarterfinals after getting second in the fifth heat with a time of 2:07.31. Her quarterfinal round is set for Friday.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Andre Walsh (St. Catherine, Jamaica) took first place in his heat to qualify for the next round, getting a time of 51.85 seconds. Walsh will run in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Thomas Keane-Dawes (Camden, N.C.) will run in the 400-meter dash quarterfinals on Friday after qualifying today with a finish in 47.99 seconds.
Anais and Keane-Dawes are looking to head back to the NCAA semifinals. Anais competed in the semifinal round in the 800-meter run last season, while Keane-Dawes reached that level as part of the UMES 4x100-meter relay team.
To finish the men's track competition, Mustapha Habbani (Berkane, Morocco) took 46th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:13.22, finishing his season.
Competition continues on Friday will the conclusion of the first round and the start of quarterfinal action.
