WOMEN'S TENNIS OPENS CONFERENCE PLAY

WASHINGTON, D.C./BALTIMORE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's tennis team opened up its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference season this past weekend as the Hawks dropped a pair of contests to Morgan State and Howard. The women fell to Howard, 7-0, on Saturday, before they dropped a 6-0 decision to Morgan State on Sunday.

UMES (0-4) lost all six of its singles matches against Howard.

Senior Solana McMillan (Teaneck, N.J.) was the lone Hawk to receive a point in singles matches as she lost 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 singles. The Hawks did not fare much better in doubles, where they lost all three contests. Sophomore Enjoli Simmons (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Arshelle Jackson (Easton, Md.) did manage to pick up a point in No. 2 doubles as the tandem fell 8-1.

The women saw several close contests in their match against Morgan State.

McMillan was the closest Hawk to picking up a win when she fell 6-1, 6-3, in No. 1 singles. Junior Shamara McKenize (Neptune, N.J.) managed to pick up two points in her loss at No. 3 singles, before UMES was defeated in both of its doubles matches, 8-1.
