NORFOLK, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore tennis teams were swept in four matches by Norfolk State University on Sunday, March 18. The men's teams opened with a 7-0 loss to NSU, while the women fell 6-0. The two squads would each conclude the series with 4-0 losses in the non-conference nightcaps.
In the first matchup, the men's team (0-9) was swept in all six singles and all three doubles matches. The matchup saw NSU pick up all singles and doubles points.
It was the same business in the nightcap, where UMES lost all four of its singles matches by scores of 6-0.
The women's team (0-8) did not fare much better against the Spartans.
Senior Solana McMillan (Teaneck, N.J.) was the lone Hawk to see competitive action.
She began the day by picking up two points at No. 1 singles. She would fall, 6-2, 6-0, before the Hawks were swept the rest of the way in singles. McMillan teamed up with junior Shamara McKenzie (Neptune, N.J.) at No. 1 doubles and the pair lost 8-2.
McMillan was the only Hawk to pick up points in the second matchup as well. She lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, before the rest of the Hawk team lost 6-0 decisions in singles.
