PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Vanessa Henry (Capital Heights, Md.) and freshman Dillon Simon (Pottersville, Roseau, Dominica) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of April 9. This is the first time that either student-athlete has received the award in 2012.
Henry had a pair of strong showings at this past weekend's Penn Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa. She placed first in the shot put with a throw of 15.47m. Her throw proved to be nearly four meters farther than the closest competitor. She then went on to place fifth in the discus throw as she heaved a distance of 35.11m.
Simon was the top performer for the men this week at the Penn Invitational. The freshman led the squad with two second-place finishes. Simon opened with a runner-up showing in the shot put, when he threw the weight a distance of 15 meters. He nearly missed out on first-place in the discus when he threw for a distance of 46.34 meters.
The two teams return to action on Saturday, April 14, when the Hawks travel to Fairfax, Va., to compete in the Mason Spring Invitational.
