Dec. 9, 2015 NORFOLK, Va. - Junior men's track & field jumper Naje Benton (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore women's track & field thrower Regyn Davis-Young (Lanham, Md.) were named as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Field Athletes of the Week, as announced by the conference today.
Benton won the conference honor once last season, while Davis-Young is being recognized for the first time in her Hawk career.
Both athletes had stellar opening acts to the 2015-16 season at the UMES Lid-Lifter this past Saturday. Benton won both the long jump and triple jump at the event, and his jump of 7.29 meters stands at a collegiate high. Davis-Young sets new personal records in the shot put and weight throw, while winning the weight throw event with a distance of 14.59 meters.
Jasper Savoy of Hampton and Morgan State's Shenel Crooke were also honored by the conference as Indoor Track Athletes of the Week.
The UMES track schedule resumes in January.
