SEVERAL HAWKS NAMED TO THE MEAC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

April 14, 2015

NORFOLK, Va. -- Two days before the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Championships in Cayce, S.C., the conference announced its 2015 MEAC All-Academic Men's & Women's Tennis Teams. Among the 84 recipients, seven University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) student-athletes were recognized for their dedication inside the classroom: Crystal Crook (Largo, Md.); Reine Fowajuh (Wilmington, Del.); Jasmine Jennings (Baltimore); Petra Jerabkova (Prague, Czech Republics); Edwin Kanu; Aleksandra Manolova (Sofia, Bulgaria); and Jamal Palmer.

"I would like to congratulate our men's and women's tennis student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 or better grade-point average during the academic school year," said MEAC Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas. "I would like to acknowledge the accomplishments of these student-athletes, the athletic academic support staff, the coaches and the parents who contributed to their academic success."

In her rookie campaign, Crook saw action in three singles and five doubles matches. Fowajuh competed in 14 total matches, including eight doubles. On April 4, the Delaware-native, alongside Manolova, picked up a win over Virginia Wesleyan's doubles team.

Jennings participated in five matches and defeated the Marlins' Maria Cifuentes for her first victory of the season. Jerabkova took part in 23 matches overall and won both singles and doubles against St. Francis Brooklyn. Manolova ended her 2015 campaign a winner as she won her final two matches of the season.

On the men's side, Kanu competed in nine matches for the Hawks while Palmer sat out this season.

For UMES, they look to build from this season with a year under their belt. Next season, both squads look to compete for a MEAC Title.
