PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- As the tennis season dwindles down, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Team looked to get rolling against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rival Delaware State (DSU). The squad fell to the Lady Hornets, 6-1, at Hawks Tennis Complex.
With the setback, UMES dropped to 0-8 (0-3 MEAC) overall while DSU improved to 4-0 (1-0 MEAC) on the season.
Despite the outcome, the Lady Hawks fought throughout the match. In singles play, Delaware-native Reine Fowajuh (Wilmington) earned four points before falling to the Lady Hornets' Patrice Casey (6-2, 6-2). Other notable performances included Melequa King (Forestville, Md.), Petra Jerabkova (Prague, Czech Republic), and Alese Brown (Charleston, S.C.) each registering a point in a losing effort.
Tomorrow (04/03), Maryland Eastern Shore goes to the Tidewater area to face two opponents. Next up, the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins at the Everett Tennis Center. Match time is 4 p.m. On Saturday (04/04), the Lady Hawks take on Hampton in MEAC play. First-serve at noon.
