VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- After dropping a tough match against route 13 rival Delaware State, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Tennis Team hit the road to take on the Virginia Wesleyan (VWC) Marlins in nonconference action. The squad dropped a heartbreaker, 4-3, as the match was decided in four hours.
Despite the outcome, multiple Lady Hawks had success. In doubles play, Reine Fowajuh (Wilmington, Del.) and Aleksandra Manolova (Sofia, Bulgaria) defeated the Marlins' Dara Gunter and Tyla Bush, 8-3.
In singles, DaTonya Price (Baltimore) won her third match of the season in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). Manolova also won, but had to be decided in the three sets (6-1, 0-6, 6-3). Furthermore, Jasmine Jennings (Baltimore) picked up her first victory of the year, winning in straight sets (6-1, 6-2).
Tomorrow, the Lady Hawks travel to Hampton, Va. where the Hampton Lady Pirates await. Match time is scheduled for noon.
