BALTIMOREÂ -- In their first of four consecutive road matches, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Tennis Team took on Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rival Morgan State (MSU) at MSU Tennis Courts and fell, 6-0. With the setback, UMES dropped to 0-11 (0-5 MEAC) overall while the Lady Bears moved to 4-13 (2-1 MEAC) on the season.
In doubles play, Morgan State won all three matches. Aleksandra Manolova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Reine Fowajuh (Wilmington, Del.) recorded a point for the Lady Hawks, but fell to MSU's Riana Roberts and Jasmine Edwards, 8-1.
In singles, UMES' No. 1 Melequa King (Forestville, Md.) produced a point, but dropped her match to Chelsi Russell (6-1, 6-0). The rest of the ladies were defeated in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).
Tomorrow (04/08), the Lady Hawks continue their road swing in the Big Apple, New York City, as they will take on St. Francis (N.Y.) in nonconference action. First-serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
