Lady Hawks Drop Road MEAC Contests in Virginia

HAMPTON, Va. & NORFOLK, Va. - Coach Walter Woods and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Tennis Team continued their road trip in Virginia where they squared off against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foes Hampton and Norfolk State (NSU).

UMES took on the Lady Pirates in the morning, then head down to Norfolk to meet the Spartans.

In the first match, Hampton (3-12, 2-3 MEAC) blanked the Lady Hawks (0-11, 0-5 MEAC), 7-0.

In singles competition, the Lady Pirates won each match in straight sets. Senior Melequa King (Forestville, Md.) returned as the squad's No. 1 player and scored twice before falling to Hampton's Mariam Mitaishvii (6-1, 6-1).

In doubles play, Hampton was too much as they took each match by the final result, 6-0.

In the nightcap, Norfolk State also blanked Maryland Eastern Shore, 7-0.

Similar to the Lady Pirates, NSU won each singles match in straight sets. King battled and scored two points before falling to the Spartans' No. 1 player Dajana Cvjetkovic (6-2, 6-0).

In doubles, the Spartans held UMES scoreless as they won each match, 6-0.

Tomorrow (April 14), the Lady Hawks travel to Pennsylvania where the Bucknell Bison await. First-serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Varsity Tennis Courts.
