Chappell, Crook Selected To The MEAC Academic Team

April 20, 2016

NORFOLK, Va. - A day before the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's & Women's Tennis Championships, the league honored 75 tennis student-athletes for their hard work and dedication in the classroom. The announcement came today.

Among the beneficiaries, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Tennis Team saw two Lady Hawks recognized: seniors Evelyn Chappell (Bowie, Md.) and Crystal Crook (Clinton, Md.).

"I applaud our men's and women's tennis student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during this academic school year," said Commissioner Dr. Dennis E. Thomas. "In addition to recognizing the student-athletes' achievements, I also commend the academic support staff, coaches and parents for their support in the success of these student-athletes both on the court and in the classroom."

The MEAC recognizes student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, including sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as transfer student-athletes, who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year.

Chappell majors in Criminal Justice while Crook studies Kinesiology.

Howard and South Carolina State had the more representative with 13 as both, men's & women's squads were honored.

Coach Walter Woods and the Lady Hawks will have another year under their belt as they look to compete next year for a conference title.
