DURHAM, N.C. ÃÆ'Æ'Æ'ÃÆ'ââ'¬Â '¢ÃÆ'Æ'Æ'¢'¬" Coach Walter Woods and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Women's Tennis team dropped their nonconference match against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe North Carolina Central (NCCU), 7-0, at the NCCU Tennis Courts.
With the loss, Eastern Shore fell to 0-5 overall whereas the Eagles moved to 2-10 on the season.
Melequa King (Washington, D.C.) led the way in singles competition, serving as the squad's No. 1 player.
The D.C. native battled and scored twice before falling to NCCU's Jamie Rogers (6-1, 6-1).
North Carolina Central was too much for the Hawks, winning the final five singles matches in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).
In doubles play, King and junior DaTonya Price (Baltimore) competed as The Shore's top team. The duo earned two points before dropping the contest to Rogers and Tamara Jeremic, 6-2.
NCCU went unblemished in the other two doubles matches, 6-0.
Tomorrow (March 20), the Hawks square off against in-state rival Morgan State in league play. The neutral site contest will take place at NCCU Tennis Courts. Match-time begins at 1 p.m.
The following day (March 21), Eastern Shore faces the Hampton Lady Pirates. Match-time is set for 3 p.m.
