March 21, 2017 PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland - Freshman baseball pitcher Wesley Martin (Westminster, Maryland) and softball pitcher Adrienne Guerra (Monrovia, California) were selected as the McDonald's Hawks of the Week for the third week of March. The award is presented weekly to a pair of Hawks who excel athletically, academically or community service.
Martin led the Hawks to a victory over Coppin State-his second on the season-with a seven inning effort that yielded three runs on just four hits to Coppin. The freshman from Carroll Country added three strikeouts, and lowered his ERA to 3.60 for the year.
In game one of a doubleheader versus Delaware State, Guerra kept Eastern Shore in the game as she tied a season-high eight strikeouts in six innings of work. The California native allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits.
Baseball and softball embark on their annual spring break trips. The baseball team faces Duke Tuesday and North Carolina Central Wednesday, while softball travels to Savannah State and South Carolina State before concluding the trip in Durham against the Eagles of North Carolina Central.
