May 3, 2017 NORFOLK, Virginia - Maryland Eastern Shore track & field seniors Khalil Rmidi Kinini (Malaga, Spain) and Shauntel Lucius (Newark, New Jersey) were acknowledged by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) as Track & Field Performers of the Week, announced by the conference on Wednesday.
The Hawk duo broke school records during the Virginia Grand Prix last Saturday. Rmidi Kinini put his name in the record books for the fourth time as an outdoor runner-and his ninth school record overall-with a time of 3:46.70 in the 1500 meter run. Lucius earned his place with a 12.72 meter triple jump.
In addition to the pair's record-setting efforts, the marks were also high enough to rank first in the MEAC entering this weekend's MEAC Outdoor Championships. Lucius' jump also placed her eighth in the ECAC and 55th nationally.
Both athletes were selected as the McDonald's Hawks of the Week this past Monday.
Maryland Eastern Shore will participate in the 2017 MEAC Outdoor Championships beginning on Thursday.
