PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland - With 196 points from the men and 148 for the women, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore won their regular season finale. On the home court in Hytche, The Shore beat out four teams to win the Eastern Shore Multies & Combined Events.
Along the way 18 Hawks won events or relays, and two Hawks qualified for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships. Sophomore Kyle Nottage (Waldorf, Maryland) managed to do both with his victory in the shot put. Nottage earned the mark with a distance of 13.37 meters. Sophomore Chisom Onukwugha (New Carrollton, Maryland), who ran a time of 8.25 seconds to win the 60 meter hurdle finals.
The women's team saw a personal best from freshman Attinuke Shittu (Germantown, Maryland). With a triple jump of 12.30 meters she won the event and catapulted herself to second best in the MEAC.
A pair of women's relay teams earned victories during the weekend. Senior Neus Quinonero (Valencia, Spain) and freshman Arianna Krcik (Pasadena, Maryland) took part in both races. 0They were joined by junior Amirah Jones (Suffolk, Virginia) and freshman Mercy Chemutai (Eldoret, Kenya) to win the distance medley with a time of 12:30.88. Sophomore Ayanna Lynn (Rockville, Maryland) and senior Luan Gabriel (Roseau, Dominica) ran the front legs of the 4x400, leading to a 4:02.09 pace.
Junior Tamunoibi Dabipi (Salisbury, Maryland) improved his weight throw distance to 15.89 meters, improving his stance in the MEAC to a fifth place tie. Sophomore Shemar Parker (Wilmington, Delaware) won the heptathlon with 4,017 points to plant himself fourth among the conference.
Additional wins were earned by sophomore Janoi Brown (Randallstown, Maryland) in the men's 400; Quinonero in the women's 800; junior Jonathan Robertson (Washington, District of Columbia) in the men's 800; Chemutai in the women's 3K and freshman Edwin Kipruto (Iten, Kenya) in the men's 3K.
The Hawks who have qualified will advance to the MEAC Championship, which will be in Landover, Maryland from February 21st to 23rd.
