Big 2nd Inning by Revolutionaries Sinks the Hawks at George Washington

SUMMARY

The George Washington Revolutionaries utilized a nine-run second inning to defeat the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks in a midweek showdown.

THE SCORE

Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks - 4

George Washington Revolutionaries - 18

HOW IT HAPPENED

On a warm, sunny day at Barcroft Park, the first inning was highlighted with a big defensive play for the Hawks. With one out and a runner at third, a George Washington batter hooked a fly ball to around the left field line. Outfielder Jason Brown dashed to the location to make the catch. As soon as he made the snag, he rifled a throw to home plate that hit the glove of Bronson Taylor a foot away from the plate. Taylor made the catch and the tag to put out the runner at home, finishing off a dynamic double play to hold the Revolutionaries scoreless.

Maryland Eastern Shore transitioned the defensive momentum into offense in the top of the second inning. Ansel Carson drew a bases loaded walk to drive in Bronson Taylor and give the Hawks the lead early, 1-0. Unfortunately for the Maroon and Grey, the Revolutionaries usurped the momentum of the game in the bottom of the second inning, rattling off nine consecutive runs to take a commanding lead.

Outside of 3.1 solid innings pitched by Drew Nelson out of the bullpen, an RBI single and sacrifice fly by Jason Brown, and an Ansel Carson RBI single, UMES had no answer for George Washington, falling 18-4 at Barcroft Park.
