Sharks Sweep Hawks in Friday Doubleheader

GAME 1

SUMMARY


BROOKVILLE, NY - The Long Island Sharks shut out the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks, 7-0, behind a complete game shutout from their starting pitcher.

HOW IT HAPPENED

On a sunny afternoon in Brookville, New York, the Hawks and Sharks were locked in a stalemate through two innings. Starting pitcher Cade Williams began his day with two scoreless innings, highlighted by a strikeout. Long Island scored their first runs of the game in the third inning. While the Hawks failed to capitalize with runners in scoring position, stranding runners in scoring position in both the second and third innings, the Sharks continued to add to their lead in the fourth and eighth innings. The surge of runs paired with a complete game on the mound by their starting pitcher enabled Long Island to win game one, 7-0. 


THE NUMBERS

The Hawks recorded zero runs on five hits and no errors while the Sharks amassed seven runs on 13 hits and no errors. 

Starting pitcher Cade Williams pitched a season-high five innings in the loss.


GAME 2

SUMMARY

Despite a two-RBI game by Ryan Davis, the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks fell to the Long Island Sharks, 12-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

LIU picked up from where they left off in game one, racing out to a six-run lead. UMES fell victim to costly errors in the fourth inning, yielding three unearned runs as a result. The Hawks responded with a couple of big plays from Ryan Davis. In the fifth inning, the power-hitting shortstop crushed his fourth home run of the season over the wall in left field. In the sixth frame, Davis delivered a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in Ryan Howe for the second run of the day for the Maroon and Grey. Ultimately, LIU rattled off enough runs to walk-off the game by run-rule, 12-2. in the seventh inning, clinching a series victory.


THE NUMBERS

The Hawks recorded two runs on seven hits and two errors while the Sharks recorded 12 runs on 13 hits and two errors. 

Julian Jimenez finished 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, recording season highs in both doubles and hits.

Ryan Davis finished 1-for-2 at the plate  with two RBI. Davis is now tied for the team lead in home runs with four on the season.


UP NEXT

With these losses, the Hawks fall to 4-34 (3-20) on the season. Maryland Eastern Shore will have an off day Saturday before returning back to LIU Baseball Stadium to finish the series against the Sharks on Sunday at Noon.
