SUMMARY
HANOVER, Md. - Four hits from Jonathan Gonzalez Perez at the plate and seven strikeouts from Henry Clausell on the mound helped the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks edge out the Coppin State Eagles, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Coppin State opened the scoring with a two-run second inning to take the lead. Maryland Eastern Shore then answered with an RBI single from Diego Aponte and an RBI fielder's choice from Diego Guerrero in the fourth frame to tie the game.
The Maroon and Grey took their first lead of the contest, 3-2, in the top of the fifth inning when Gonzalez Perez laced an RBI double down the right field line. After the Eagles evened the match again with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, Gonzalez Perez drove in his second go-ahead run of the afternoon on an RBI single through the right side
Trailing 4-3, Coppin State scored on a fielding error in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game for the third time.
UMES once again pulled ahead in the ninth, 5-4, when Julian Jimenez scored on an error by the Eagles. Relief pitcher Clausell then closed the game, striking out the side en route to the Hawks' third consecutive conference win.

The Hawks recorded five runs on seven hits and three errors while the Eagles totaled four runs on seven hits and four errors
Clausell struck out seven over 4.1 innings of work, not yielding an earned run en route to his first pitching win of the season.
Gonzalez Perez paced the Hawk offense, registering a season-high four hits and a team-high two RBI in the victory
The Hawks earned their first series win of the 2026 campaign
