(Hawks win series 2-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the top of the first inning, Ansel Carson and Diego Aponte both hit RBI singles to put UMES ahead, 2-0. The Maroon and Grey then pushed their lead to five runs in the second when Darrius Brown laced an RBI single and Carson tallied a two-RBI single.

Coppin State answered with a three-run bottom of the second to decrease their deficit to two. Leading 5-3, Aponte cranked an RBI double before Bronson Taylor drove in another run on a groundout, doubling the Hawks' advantage.

Trailing 7-3, the Eagles scored one run in the sixth inning and eight runs in the seventh inning to take the lead, 12-7.

The Maroon and Grey then rallied in the eighth inning to take the lead back. Carson and Aponte each tallied RBI on a bases-loaded hit by pitch and walk, respectively, while Amari Hackett, Taylor, and Rodriguez each recorded RBI singles, putting UMES back ahead, 13-12.

Even though Coppin State tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning, Diego Aponte cleared the bases on a three-RBI double in the ninth to give the Hawks the lead, 16-13. Unfortunately for UMES, a solo home run and a three-RBI double from Coppin State in the bottom of the ninth inning enabled the Eagles to win the game, 17-16, and avoid the sweep.
