HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
In the top of the first frame, the Sharks took the lead, 2-0, on back-to-back RBI singles. Starting pitcher Esteban Torres then settled in, pitching back-to-back shut out innings, keeping the Hawks within two.
LIU capitalized on two Hawks errors in the fourth inning, plating three unearned runs in the frame. Trailing 5-0, Torres, Justin Spencer, and Darrius Brown then teamed up to each throw a scoreless fifth, sixth, and seventh inning, providing an opportunity for Julian Jimenez to close the gap with a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh.
Leading 5-2, LIU built an insurmountable lead with an eight-run eighth inning. The Sharks then finished the game with a scoreless eighth inning to clinch a 13-2 win.
THE NUMBERS
The Hawks totaled two runs on five hits and three errors while the Sharks amassed 13 runs on 12 hits and no errors.
Torres matched his season-high with five innings pitched, striking out two while only yielding one earned run.
Jonathan Rodriguez recorded his third multi-hit game of the season, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate
Jimenez went 2-for-4 with a triple and a team-high two RBI. The senior from Chicago now leads the NEC with three triples
