PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has named Lauren Fields as director of women's basketball operations.
Fields comes to UMES after serving as a graduate assistant for the last two years at Indiana University. At Indiana, Fields assisted the women's basketball coaching staff with opponent scouting, film analysis and performance tracking.
She also spent the past year as a fundraising development intern with the Owen County YMCA. In this role, Fields supported fundraising strategy with grant research and writing while engaging with donors, assisting with capital campaign development.
Fields also joins the Hawks after a storied five-year playing career at the Division I level. She finished her playing career with a final season at West Virginia University where she started 33 games for the Mountaineers and helped lead the program to a second round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to West Virginia, Fields played one year at the University of Arizona, starting 30 games. Fields helped lead Arizona to a second round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Fields began her playing career with three seasons at Oklahoma State where she started 66 games. During her time in Stillwater, Fields helped lead Oklahoma State to the NCAA Tournament once. She also earned Academic All-Big 12 honors twice and was also named second team all-conference once.
Fields earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona in interdisciplinary studies in 2023. While playing at West Virginia, Fields balanced her playing career with her academic pursuits while she earned a master's in sports management in 2024. Fields earned a second master's while at Indiana in public affairs.

The University currently fields teams in 15 sports: women's and men's volleyball, women's bowling, women's and men's golf, women's and men's cross country, women's and men's basketball, women's and men's indoor track & field, women's and men's outdoor track & field, softball, and baseball.
The UMES women's volleyball, bowling, basketball, softball, track & field, and cross country programs compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). UMES golf, baseball, and men's volleyball compete as members of the Northeast Conference (NEC). In June, UMES also announced the addition of women's flag football which will compete in the MEAC beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year.
