Six Hawks named WGCA All-America Scholars; team continues to win in the classroom

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland | The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's golf team had a total of six players selected to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-America Team earlier this month. The recognition comes after an impressive performance from the team in the classroom where the Hawks combined for a cumulative GPA of 3.85 last Spring.

UMES is represented on this year's WGCA All-America Team by:

Bushra Fatima | Freshman | Lahore, Pakistan
TinYan Liu | Freshman | Hong Kong, China
Pearl Omaruaye | Freshman | Lagos, Nigeria
Charlene Pak | Sophomore | Woodstock, Maryland
Sydney Raines | Sophomore | Oakland, California

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics and continue to demonstrate the high-level academic achievements of our players. To be selected, a student-athlete must:

• Have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
• Be an amateur and on the team's roster through the conclusion of the team's season.
• Have played in 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team's conference championship.

In addition to All-America honors, the Hawks also had seven members of the team selected to the NEC Spring Academic Honor Roll for achieving a 3.20+ GPA. The NEC Academic honorees from UMES include:

After a successful 2025-2026 season which included a fourth place finish at the NEC Championships, the UMES women's golf team returns to begin the 2026-27 season on August 31st at the Youngstown State Roseann Schwartz Invitational at the Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio.
