Hawks place seventh in the Battle at Quail Valley


LITTLESTOWN, Pennsylvania | Competing in the third tournament of the fall season, the Hawks finished in seventh place in the Battle at Quail Valley.


UMES opened tournament play with a strong team score of 309. A trio of 76s by Pearl Omaruaye, Alysa Davis and Sydney Raines along with a pair of 81s from Bushra Fatima and Tinyan Liu helped the Hawks shoot their best team round of the fall. UMES combined for a second round score of 319. Fatima paced the Hawks in the second round with a score of 76 followed by Omaruayre's 78. Liu shot an 80 and Davis carded an 85 in the second round.


Davis led UMES in Tuesday's third round with a 79 followed by a pair of 81s from Fatima and Liu. Omaruaye, Raines and Charlene Pak finished the final 18 holes with identical scores of 83. 


As a team, UMES finished the tournament with a total stroke count of 952. Omaruaye was the low woman for the Hawks with a three day total of 237. Seton Hall won the team title with a score of 889 while Marta Aguilar of the Pirates took the individual title with a one-over score of 217.

UMES will return to competition on Sept. 28 at the Stonehill College Invitational in Hillside, New York.
