Princess Anne, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks volleyball team (19-9) defeated the Navy Midshipmen (6-13) in a three-game sweep last night by scores of 32-30, 30-25 and 30-20.
Jana Milin, as usual, delivered a top notch performance. Milin totaled 23 kills and 8 digs to lead the Hawk attack. Teammates Aja Smith and Mamie Lewis were not far behind with 10 kills each. Sanda Dzile notched 43 assists and Marlee Johnson had 12 digs for the Hawks.
"The first game was tough," said UMES Coach Toby Rens, "but the ladies showed Navy how aggressive our team can be in order to get a win."
The Midshipmen were led by Ashley VanHartesvelt with 12 kills, and setters Mariellen Carnes (15 assists) and Ashley Musser (13 assists).
The Hawks have two home matches next week on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, October 30 they play North Carolina A&T at 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 31, they'll challenge South Carolina State University at 6:00 p.m. Admission to all games is free.
