Box Score

Greensboro, NC - The UMES Volleyball team was picked to finish second in the MEAC pre-season polls. They finished there in the regular season but were hoping for one spot better in the finals. It wasn't to be as they fell to the Rattlerettes of Florida A & M 3-0 in the Championship round of MEAC Volleyball on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks defeated every confrence team they played this season with the exception of Florida A & M in Tallahassee and again for the MEAC Championship. Nonetheless the Hawks finished the best season in school histroy with a 26-12 record and 9-1 in the MEAC.

"We had a great year," said Head Coach Toby Rens. "I can not say enough about the team. We were beaten by a great school in FAMU, one that was in the top 30 in the country, and we played hard and never quit. I hope next season to be in a postion where they have to defeat us and not the other way around," Rens added. UMES may just be in that spot as they lose only one player, senior Sarah Whitfield, off of this year's squad.

"We will be back," said Rens. "Even better than this year. I want to thank everyone for their support, it made this one the best seasons I have ever had, and a great experience for the entire University," he conluded.
