Aug. 27, 2014 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) athletics department's countdown continues with the inaugural award show, "The Harrys."
It was a great night to be a Hawk as the venue provided those in attendance with a big screen type atmosphere, similar to the Oscars. The Harrys showcased red carpet, good food and guest announcers. The show began with President Dr. Julliette B. Bell giving the welcome address.
The show displayed several awards, including the UMES Athletes of the Year: baseball's Stephen Bull (Millsboro, Del.) and bowling's Megan Buja (Rockford, Ill.).
UMES' 2014 Hawk of the Year was presented to former Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) Dr. Henry Brooks while golf's Kijontray McClay (San Diego, Calif.) and basketball's Shawnee Sweeney (Chester, Va.) were awarded the Jostens' Award for Sportsmanship.
UMES Scholar Athletes of the Year was given to Buja and basketball's Ishaq Pitt (Brooklyn, N.Y.) whereas the Hawk Appreciation Award went to longtime Hawk supporters, Neil and Tori Widdowson.
Notable team honors included the Quantum Leap Award (men's outdoor track & field) and Team of Scholars (baseball and bowling).
