SIMON AND RMIDI KININI HONORED AGAIN

Feb. 4, 2015

NORFOLK, Va. - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced its track & field athletes of the week today, and two Hawks that have become commonplace on that list found their names there again. Senior Dillon Simon (Roseau, Dominica) was named the conference's men's field athlete of the week, while sophomore Khalil Rmidi Kinini (Malaga, Spain) earned men's track athlete honors.

Both rose to new heights in last weekend's John Thomas Terrier Invitational in Boston, as each reset a school record they themselves had previously set. Simon tossed the shot put for a distance of 19.23 meters, winning the event and defeating his old personal best mark of 19.03 meters. The mark puts him in the top ten of IC4A qualifiers and in the top dozen among all NCAA Division I shot putters.

Rmidi Kinini ran the 3000 meter run in a time of 8:09.34, besting the old record by a full seven seconds. Although he finished seventh among collegiate runners at the event, the time was good for 20th among IC4A qualifiers.

Hampton's LeQuisha Parker and North Carolina Central's Darlene Girardeau won the women's track and women's field awards, respectively. UMES freshman Royce Aiken (Wilmington, Del.) was named among the conference's other top performers with two personal bests in the 60 and 200 meter dashes.
