April 30, 2017 CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA - In the regular season finale, the Maryland Eastern Shore track & field team wrapped up the campaign in style, setting many personal and even two school records at the Virginia Grand Prix in Charlottesville on Saturday.
A pair of Hawk seniors set new school records during the meet. Khalil Rmidi Kinini (Malaga, Spain) overcame Mustapha Habbani's time of 3:46.76 with a time of 3:46.70 in the 1500 meter run. The new record topples a six year old mark for the Hawks, and represents the third outdoor record for Rmidi Kinini as a Maryland Eastern Shore runner, along with the 3000 and 5000 meter runs.
Fellow senior Shauntel Lucius (Newark, New Jersey) etched her name in the record books for the triple jump, earning a mark of 12.72 meters in the triple jump. That distance outstretched Geranda Williams' mark of 12.69 meters, set back in 2012. Lucius as already qualified for both the ECAC Championships and the MEAC Championships for the triple at previous events.
In addition to the school records, there were three new qualifications to the postseason. Junior Tanise Edwards (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) will go to ECAC's after scoring a 12.48 meter distance in the triple jump, finishing right behind Lucius. Edwards and Lucius also qualified for MEAC's in the high jump, both achieving a distance of 1.59 meters. A women's 4x100 relay team also exceeded ECAC standards with a time of 46.95 seconds.
Personal records were set by 12 Hawks over 15 events during the Grand Prix, which included freshman Jayla Lane (Louisville, Kentucky) in the 100 meter and the long jump; freshman Taliah Hardie (Clarksburg, Maryland) in the 100 meter; freshman Neus Quinonero (Valencia, Spain) in the 400 meter run; freshman Sierra Adams (Silverdale, Washington) in the discus; junior Regyn Davis-Young (Lanham, Maryland) in the hammer throw; freshman Chadera Egeonu (Newark, Delaware) in the 100 and 200 meter dashes; sophomore Joshua Dacres (Yorktown Heights, New York) in the 200 dash; freshman Michael Sutton (Melfa, Virginia) in the 400 meter dash; freshman Kelsey White (Columbia, Maryland) in the 800 meter run; freshman Hector Cime (Parksley, Virginia) in the 5k; freshman Tamunoibi Dabipi (Salisbury, Maryland) in the discus and hammer; and sophomore Juwan Richardson (Baltimore, Maryland) in the hammer throw.
